Visitors to Nebraska’s Venture Park region can expect to see a variety of exciting improvements in 2025. Across the state parks, new projects and enhancements led by the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission are creating more comfortable, modern experiences for park-goers of all kinds.
At Eugene T. Mahoney State Park, one of the most notable upgrades is at the Peter Kiewit Lodge, where a major renovation is underway. All 40 lodge rooms are receiving updates, including brand-new heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems. The outdated climate controls have been replaced with modern solutions to ensure maximum comfort for guests year-round.
Other enhancements include remodeled bathrooms, updated furniture, and new siding on the north side of the building. One of the most visible changes: the iconic green roof’s asphalt shingles have been replaced with composite shaker-style shingles, offering better durability and an updated aesthetic.
The HVAC and renovation project has been funded through a combination of Capital Maintenance Funds ($24,841.25) and State Park Improvement funds, with $1.6 million spent to date and a total of $1.8 million expected by project completion.
These upgrades are part of a broader effort to enhance Nebraska’s Venture Parks and ensure they remain attractive, welcoming destinations for families, outdoor enthusiasts, and visitors for years to come.
